Single UCV Operating Theatre Suite
Bedford Hospital - Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Project Considerations:
- No Capital Available
- Link to exisiting Theatres at 1st floor level (Hospital Main Entrance)
- Provision of Theatre equipment included within the Hire Rate
- UCV (Laminar Flow) Requirement
- Enabling Works package
- Minimal distruption to live hospital site
In March 2018 ModuleCo Healthcare (MCH) successfully handed over a Single UCV Operating Theatre Suite at Bedford Hospital. MCH were awarded the scheme by the Trust after being nominated preferred bidder status following a tender process back in November 2017. With many considerations needed as part of the project and the fact that the Trust needed the facility to be live by April, MCH had to work efficiently with the Trust in order to meet the required deadline.
Complete Turnkey Package
After signing off on the building design, enabling works then became the key aspect to consider. With the facility being installed at first floor level of the hospital main entrance, careful and precise planning was required. This included pedestrian redirection and the installation of an alternative main entrance. Health and Safety of the patients, visitors and staff was always at the forefront of any decision made throughout the project, particularly during the enabling works. In order for the facility to have access to the hospitals main theatre department which resides on the first floor, the MCH design team created an innovative podium structure for the facility to sit on. Having provided this type of structure on previous schemes, the Trust had added comfort that this was a tried and tested solution.
Fully Equipped Theatre
In order to meet the Trusts budget constraints, MCH were able to provide the Theatre fully equipped and include this cost within the hire rate. This took some of the strain from the Trusts Clinical and Procurement teams and resulted in the Theatre being fully operational from day one.
This Theatre is also be fully maintained as part of the agreement, since MCH understands that Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) is critical for the safe and efficient function of a healthcare facility.
